INTRODUCING CENTENNIAL DISTRICT GOVERNOR 308 B1
Lion Sashekala Pathmanathan was born in Ipoh, Perak. A happily married home maker, she was introduced to Lionism in 1998 by very close family friends. Drawn to the uniqueness of the ideals, principles and service in Lionism, she joined the Lions Club of Ayer Keroh as a Charter Member. Since then, she has moved forward taking every challenge in her stride.
An effective leader with the spirit of Lionism at heart, Lion Sashekala has served in various positions in her Club and was an excellent president in the fiscal year 2002-2003. Her active participation in projects did not go unnoticed. In 2003, she was appointed into the District Cabinet as Zone Chairperson. Her exemplary leadership style captured the attention of many District Governors, which resulted in her appointment to various positions in the District Cabinet. She has been Zone Chairperson, Region Chairperson, District Chairperson and Cabinet Secretary.
Besides her dedication to the humanitarian cause, she is also a staunch advocate of leadership as well as youth development. She believes that leadership and learning are intertwined and cannot be separated, the reason she continually attends seminars and workshops. She has attended the International Conventions, OSEAL forums and Multiple District Conventions to deepen her knowledge of, and experience in, Lionism. Her passion for youth development is evident in her continuous involvement with the Leos and youth activities of the District. Her passion to develop the youth has led her to be appointed the District Chairperson for Leo Clubs five (5) times.
In line with her dedication, commitment and passion to serve and lead, Lion Sashekala has received numerous awards. She has been twice awarded the International President’s Leadership Award, once in 2005 and another in 2008, in addition to other LCI and District.
Lion Sashekala is sensitive toward the needs of the diverse community, both locally and globally. She serves the local community by being involved in the various district projects such as sight preservation, renal center, and the Lions Education Foundation. She has also reached out to victims of natural disasters such as in the recent Nepal earthquake. Furthermore, having understood the need for financial aid to support programs and activities of the District and LCIF which go beyond sight, disaster and youth, Lion Sashekala has become a contributing member. It is her way of demonstrating her desire to help people within and beyond her reach. Hence, she is a Progressive District Fellow and a Melvin Jones Fellow.
Inspired by Albert Pine who said, “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal”, she never hesitates to offer her assistance and guidance whenever and wherever needed. A warm, friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic Lion, her devotion to Lionism and dedication to service through Lionism has brought her to where she is today.
With a District theme Reaching New Summits, Lion Sashekala illustrates the fact that there are always new challenges to overcome and new opportunities to seize which can be conquered if one works in unity and harmony with others. With this theme, she aspires to strengthen the bonds of Lionism in the District. Her four focal areas are: Membership Development, particularly in enhancing the involvement of women in service; Leadership Development; Leo and Youth Development; as well as Enhancing the Quality of Service to the Communities.
